This week's lesson: CHOICE BOARD
Pick one, two, or all three activities!
1. Disney Lip Sync: record a 30 second video of yourself lip synching to your favorite Disney song! Send to [email protected]. There is a video below called "Top 5 Disney Songs" that gives you ideas.
2. Share a song that has a positive message (or a "positive vibe playlist") with someone this week. My song to you is Bruno Mars' "Count On Me". It cheers me up and the video I shared has the lyrics and is full of cute animals!
3. Water Music - Do Re Mi "Water Xylophones" This is a really easy and quick project that will allow you to play songs using Do Re and Mi! All you need are 3 glasses with water, and a spoon or fork. You don't need to use colored water, but you might need to have an adult help with the water glasses.

Lesson Week 5 4/23/2020 Lesson Music Choice Board AND a fun folk song!
Scroll to see all 8 boxes on the music choice board for this week!
|
Chicken On the Fence Post is a fun FOLK song to sing, and has such quick words, you might think it's a tongue-twister! Challenge yourself to learn it and sing it faster each time! Pat your knees each time you sing "chi-cken-on-the" - that's the "tika-tika" rhythm, or 4 sixteenth notes, that you may have learned in class already! You can just imagine how the "old timers" would have danced to this song: in a big circle, knees kicking, feet kicking, elbows popping! Make room if you get the urge to dance!

Objective: Students can listen for dynamics and communicate understanding of music's expressive qualities
Objective: Students can listen for dynamics and communicate understanding of music's expressive qualities

This piece of music will really get your attention using DYNAMICS!!!! Dynamics is a musical term that's all about LOUD, quiet, and everything in between! The surprise was probably a little joke by the composer Hadyn to his audience...maybe he caught them sleeping? Listen to the first couple minutes of this video: The first big "surprise" happens around 41 seconds.

Listening Maps and Links to Videos - "Surprise Symphony"
*Follow this LISTENING MAP while you listen to the music on your favorite music app. OR, you can click on this VIDEO to help you follow along until you can do it by yourself.
*Click on the Suggested Movement video for extra fun and reinforcement! Just like the conductor in the video, make your movements BIG when the music is LOUD, and small when the music is quiet.
*Comment on Class Dojo and tell me: what is the surprise in the music? Did you surprise anyone with the music, and what was their reaction? Can you think of other songs that have surprises in them? Can you make up more movements to Symphony 94?

Lesson Week 1: Found Sounds
Above: Music Lesson 3/26/2020: "Found Sounds!" HAVE A GROWN UP HELP YOU find objects around your house that could be a percussion instrument (“found sound”). *Play a steady beat like you're the drummer along with your favorite songs and be a star! *Make up your own rhythms and play them! Use ta, ti-ti, rest, ta-a, tika-tika, etc!!! *Use both hands! *Pay special attention to tempo (fast/slow) and dynamics (loud/soft) while playing. *Play from the Found Sound PLAYLIST with your family; music is always more fun in a group!!! Objective: Students Can: a. Perform learned rhythmic phrases using expressive elements. b. Perform multiple rhythmic ostinati in small groups. |
HELLO THERE, HOW ARE YOU?It's our hello song! "Hello there! How are you? It's so good to see you! We'll sing and be happy that we're all here together again."
|
Grades K-1I would suggest trying just one 'instrument' so they can really have time to feel that steady beat! Play one or two songs a couple of times each for repetition.
|
Grades 2-5 For grades 2-5, I recommend starting off with 2 objects and see how you keep up! Play all the songs, and ask your brothers and sisters to play, too!
|
Bonus: a bookClick below to hear a BOOK about a boy who had a lot of fun with FOUND SOUNDS:
Max Found Two Sticks |
Ms. Shoup's FOUND SOUNDS
I found a plastic bag, an empty box, a plastic bowl, a bucket, a bottle filled with a few dry beans, a soup pot, and a huge tub! The wooden spoons are for drum sticks, but I really like to use my hands!
